Some parties have a theme. This one had a person. When Kristine of Events by Kristine planned her best friend Chanel's 40th (Coco, to her friends), she didn't start with a color palette. She started with Coco herself: her favorite sushi, her perfume, her go-to movie, her snacks. Then she turned all of it into a party.
In Kristine's words, when your best friend trusts you with her 40th, "you make sure every detail reflects everything she loves." The result, on October 17 at ANEMI in Astoria, was a hot pink, silver and disco glam dinner where every single detail said Coco.
The Theme: Hot Pink, Silver and Disco Glam
Three colors, zero chill. Hot pink florals, silver disco balls and a little sparkle on everything, from the table runner to the cake. It's glam without being stuffy, and it photographs like a dream in a dim, moody restaurant.
But the real magic was the idea behind it. Instead of treating decor as background, Kristine made it part of the story. Coco's favorite things showed up everywhere: on the backdrop, on the menu, on the favors and even in the signature cocktail.
The "Favorite Things" Backdrop
This is the detail everyone's going to steal. Behind the table, a hand-illustrated "FORTY, Happy Birthday" banner is packed with the things Coco loves: a sushi platter, a martini, an iced coffee, sparkling water, a bag of Sun Chips, a classic perfume bottle, a pair of red heels, pink peonies, nail polish and makeup, a shopping bag, a vinyl record and a copy of The Devil Wears Prada. It's a birthday card, a backdrop and an inside joke all at once.
The Table: Tiaras, Menus and a Little Mischief
Down the middle of the table: a ruffled hot pink runner, pink and silver disco balls, glass candlesticks and glowing candles, all against ANEMI's dark wood and green velvet chairs. Every place setting got the full treatment.
- Personalized dinner menus with ANEMI's Greek dishes, from pikilia and saganaki to branzino and lamb chops, framed by peonies and disco balls.
- A signature cocktail named after her: "The Chanel" Cosmopolitan, with vodka, cranberry and orange liqueur.
- "Scratch Me If You Dare" cards tucked into every napkin, for a little surprise between courses.
- A "Guess How Many M&M's Are in the Jar" game, where the closest guess takes home the jar.
- A gold tiara waiting at the birthday girl's seat, because obviously.
The Sweets: A Disco Ball Cake and Then Some
The cake was pure disco: pink buttercream, a crown of hot pink roses, pearls, and mini silver disco balls tumbling down the sides, with a rhinestone "I'm 40" topper and "Happy 40th Birthday" piped around the base. Watch the cake video on CeleStories → Alongside it came pink cake pops, chocolate-dipped pretzel rods and pink chocolate-covered cookies stamped with a silver interlocking-C logo, a sweet nod to her name.
Every sweet on the table was booked through Events by Kristine as part of the full design, which is exactly why the cake, cake pops and cookies match the menus and the runner down to the last disco ball. One less thing for the host to coordinate.
The Favors: "Coco's Favorite Things"
Guests went home with a little piece of the party: custom "Coco's 40th" candle tins, clear pink zip pouches stocked with party-night essentials, hot pink matchbooks with a cheeky one-liner and that designer-inspired cookie. Personal, useful and very on theme.

- Make a "favorite things" backdrop. List 15 things the guest of honor loves, from snacks to movies, and have them illustrated on one big banner. Instant conversation starter.
- Name the cocktail after them. One signature drink, one name, zero effort for the bartender.
- Put something fun on every plate. Scratch-off cards, a guessing game or a tiny favor keeps the table buzzing between courses.
- Pick three colors and repeat them everywhere. Hot pink, silver and disco sparkle tied the menus, cake, runner and favors together.
- Crown the birthday girl. Literally. A tiara at her seat sets the tone before she even sits down.
